Student Loan Debt Consolidation
April 10th, 2010 by carla_guillermoWhen I was student, I was totally dependent on my parents for all the finances of my education. Good thing that I had my parents to assist me that I did not need to apply for loans to continue to the university. But not all students are like me, some need to look for financial aids like scholarships and grants as well as private and federal loans. Because of the rising cost of education, it will be no surprise to see lots of students opting not to continue at all. But if one was able to come up with a loan for his studies, the hard part is how to manage the repaying liabilities. Lenders have different rules such as with the due dates, repaying amount and grace period so this is what this article is about – consolidation. Student loan consolidation is an alternate way to reduce the burden and regulates your finances. All your student loan will become one single loan liability with lower rate of interest. It will be easier for you to track your repayment installments as well as make you fully aware of what is happening. What do you think?

The Value of Gold
April 9th, 2010 by carla_guillermoWhy would you consider gold in the first place as an investment? Aside from being a solid choice, it has a spot value that is dependent on the market forces dominated by buyers and sellers. Gold’s perceived value can be made as insurance for a wise move because of its volatile characteristic. In comparison with stocks, bonds and currencies, gold is not easily manipulated by monetary policies and government. It is recommended that you allocate at least 10% of your assets to precious metals such as gold as insurance. So how would it be possible? You need to buy and own gold. It means that you need to have physical gold in your possession. Where can you buy it? You can buy gold either from ETFs or by creating GoldMoney account where you can deposit cash but save it as gold. You can withdraw the said investment when the price of gold in the market is high. These are just suggestions but more information would not do any harm, right?

New Gift Card Rules
April 8th, 2010 by carla_guillermoI think this one is both good and bad news. Nope, you did not win any raffle draw and do not expect any presents from me. But hey, this coming August you can expect new banking regulations about gift cards. So what? What are gift cards anyway? These include single-store cards like iTunes and even the Visa/ Mastercard/ Amex general-use GCs. It will be the time to erase monthly fees unless you stacked your card for a year. That’s not all. There is also a longer expiration date requirements which is about five years from the time of purchase. The downside would be having no maximum on those monthly fees as long as the company warned you as well as your card could still expire. The expiration issue is just like with the credit cards so you need to have a new one once in a while that will require you some charges. It really depends on the person on how these new rules will affect him. What do you think?

Your Fees when Travelling
April 6th, 2010 by carla_guillermoEveryone wants to have a break once in a while. If you are planning to go to a vacation especially this coming summer season, enjoy the beach while sipping tequila but beware of possible cash drainers. Yes, you will not be secured at all even though you are amidst the palms or forests. It would be no surprise to find ATMs and credit card terminals wherever you are. Ignorance is not an excuse so better continue reading to be an informed traveler. Because of modern technology, it is lot easier to travel and pay as well as be less conscious on why you are paying for more. Here are the fees you need to pay when you use credit card, debit card, or ATM withdrawals abroad. First is the ATM out-of-network fee with usually a flat rate charged by big banks for using a foreign ATM. The Bank ATM fee, on the other hand, is charged by the bank owning the ATM you’re using but sometimes you can reimburse this one. Next would be the Foreign exchange fee for Visa and Mastercard that has a percentage fee on all foreign transactions. The Cash advance fee is for using your credit card to withdraw cash at an ATM and I personally don’t recommend it. Last is the Exchange rate which is usually unfavorable at an airport currency counter or store. Before you travel and use anything for money, know your bank’s charges as well as your destinations’ allowed mode of payment so you can prepare for it.

If you have been jobless and thinking about getting a Master’s degree because of the crappy economy then read on. Getting a MBA is not cheap at all but can be a career boost. Some says that employers got scary if you have the said degree because it would allow you to demand more things that may include salary. Before you come up with a decision make a cost and benefit analysis first. Though some studies showed that a graduate degree can make you earn more, sometimes the cost of education, whether on public or private school, can’t pay off in the work place. The education expenses are still ballooning nowadays. You can also opt for more competitive and cheaper schools if you are having a tight budget. Lastly, you can contemplate over wishful thinking and inspired thinking. If you pursue a higher education, make sure you would not put yourself into more problems like debts just because you focused on overinvesting than having the right work and experience.
